President's Message May 2011
Well I don’t know about you, but I have had about enough rain and cold for this year…it’s time for some sunny days and a little heat.
In reviewing April’s numbers I couldn’t help but notice a striking resemblance to the sales numbers for this same time frame for 2010. We are still experiencing market numbers being down again for the month of April, not only locally, but also from across our province, yet province wide there is a higher number of listings. We all know that this is an advantage to those who are buying (Buyer’s Market). At this time, we must reiterate to our clients who are selling, that they need to have a very sharp pencil when putting a price on their home, as the competition for sales is high, as is the number of listings.
What seems to be causing this effect on our market? A few suggestions being kicked around by the economic folks around the industry are; people have been bracing for potentially three elections; they are watching to see what will happen with the upcoming BC-HST referendum, and/or the long dreary winter that doesn’t want to let go of its grasp.
As professionals we need to keep spreading a positive message. That we have lots of inventory to choose from; our interest rates remain very competitive, and that we need to sell something to feed our families (maybe don’t use that last line). But I think you understand that we need to remain positive and focused moving forward.
With the Federal election now behind us and the confidence vote of the Canadian citizens to see a majority Government lead us, we now hopefully can move forward with a feeling of stability throughout ALL of Canada, bringing with this a comfort level that we will move ahead in a positive way.
